We are sadly approaching our last few weeks with Kim Isaac as our University Librarian. Kim’s connections to UFV are longstanding, starting here as a student in the 1970’s. In 1989 she became an instructor and Program Head for the Library and Information Technology Program. She has been our UL since 2000, and has led the library with grace and integrity.
During this
time, Kim oversaw the building of the new library at the Canada Education Park,
the renovation of the Abbotsford Campus library in 2017, and the CEP Library
renovation in 2020. She guided the
library in its transition from university college to full university status,
overseeing our growth in budget, staffing and services. She has always worked with
the librarians and library technicians with compassion and caring. She fully
understands how essential it is to balance one`s personal and working lives to
reach our potential. Kim is a strong
supporter of the library’s indigenization activities. She uses her fundamental
concern for the best interests of students and faculty to guide her policies
and decision-making.
Kim has been
an advocate for the library and represented the library on a number of UFV
committees, including Senate, Academic Planning and Priorities Committee,
Academic Continuity and the Senior Academic Leadership Team. In addition, Kim
has provided professional expertise and leadership to the wider academic
library community, in a variety of roles.
The UFV Library has benefitted tremendously from our memberships in
regional and national consortia, providing us with collection and service
opportunities that we would never have afforded otherwise. These organizations
depend on the service of committed members to operate, develop and grow, and
Kim has contributed greatly to this through her knowledge, professionalism and
commitment to the vision of these consortia.
In
recognition of her many contributions and 33 years of dedicated service to UFV,
Kim has been honoured with the designation of Librarian Emeritus.
We’d like to
thank Kim for being our outstanding leader and wish her the very best in her
upcoming retirement!
