Prepare for Finals at UFV Library

At UFV Library, we know final exam period can be a stressful time for many and we want students to know that
UFV Library is here to help! See below for more information about some of our services that may be useful:

Hours

Both campus libraries are open our usual semester hours during the final exam period – check our website before heading to campus if you are not sure if we are open (https://library.ufv.ca/about-the-library/library-hours/).

Study spaces

Depending on how you prefer to study, we've got space for you!

  • Tables and solo desks are available at a first come first serve basis
  • Library computers and computer labs
  • Group study rooms – must be for multiple people & only for 2 hours/day
  • PODS – solo study space that can be booked for 3 hours/day
  • None of the library spaces should be used to attend virtual exams (as outlined in our policy on our website)
  • Bookable spaces can be found via this link https://library.ufv.ca/about-the-library/book-a-study-space/

Calculators

We have a few calculators available on a first come first serve basis – we highly recommend you bring your own calculator and supplies for your finals but if you forget yours and are in a pinch we may have one you can borrow (please note supplies are extremely limited).

Supplies

We cannot guarantee that we will have writing supplies at our libraries – please bring your own pens, pencils, paper, ruler, notebooks, paperclips, erasers, and other tools you may need.

Campus Maps

If your exam is in a building or room you are not familiar with, check in with our staff at the main library desk and they can provide you with directions on how to get to the room you are looking for and a map.

Study Materials

Although in most cases the Library does not have the course textbook, we likely have other books or articles related to topics you’ve reviewed in your classes. Ask our friendly staff for help locating books or articles you would like to read to help you study.

A Flood of Stories Exhibit

The Abbotsford Library has a new exhibit, A Flood of Stories. Led by Dr. Michelle Superle and Sydney Marchand, A Flood of Stories began as the Flood Stories Project which engaged farm families in the Fraser Valley who were affected by the November 2021 extreme flooding events on the Sumas Prairie. Utilizing expressive arts therapy, including “Writing as a Way of Healing” workshops, farmers and their families were invited to share their experiences in various art forms.

A contest was held, and children/youth in Abbotsford and Chilliwack and members of the UFV community were invited to use expressive arts to communicate their flood experiences. These creative projects were made public in the Flood Stories Project exhibition at The Reach Gallery Museum in early 2023, and the UFV Library is pleased to be able to display some of the works again.

A Flood of Stories now extends beyond the 2021 extreme flooding events on the Sumas Prairie, and the project is now inviting everyone who wants to share a story about climate disaster, sustainability, and/or food security to do so. Storytellers who wish to share their stories publicly will have the opportunity to do so through Dr. Michelle Superle's 20 Harvest Challenge and/or the Climate Disaster Project.

Please stop by and view the exhibit. Be sure to enjoy both the children’s artwork (in the hallway of G Building) and the rest of the exhibit (just inside the Library).

There is also a collection of books available for check out that relate to expressive and creative arts therapy.

A Flood of Stories will be on display until at least January 30th.
