COVID-19: Updates on Library Services and Operations

August 6, 2020 Update

Our Collection is Opening!
  • Our new Select and Collect Service has launched. UFV students, faculty, staff and alumni can now place Abbotsford library books on hold and pick them up on campus.

  • LGBTQ+ Resources
  • Anti-Black Racism - A very timely new guide on Anti-Black Racism
  • COVID-19 Resources - This guide is intended to give students electronic resources for research on timely topics in response to COVID-19.
  • COVID-19 and Criminal Justice - The Criminal Justice system has been immensely impacted by COVID-19.  Developed in partnership with UFV faculty Hayli Millar and Yvon Dandurand, this new LibGuide explores the effect on prisons, courts, policing, crime, human rights, vulnerable populations and more. 
Library Closures
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as of March 18, 2020 the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campus library facilities are closed
Computer Access and Study Spaces
  • Building G and the Computer Lab G210 will be closed to the public after Saturday, April 25th.
  • The computer lab in Building D, room 204 is open.

Borrowing and Returning Items
  • As the libraries are closed, our physical collections are not accessible. Please contact the library if you are looking for alternatives, such as an ebook version. Faculty may wish to contact their liaison librarian directly.
  • Due dates for materials currently signed out will automatically be extended to August 17. No overdue or recall fines will be charged.
  • However, we encourage you to return any UFV Library items that you no longer need. 
    Our book drops remain open and accessible:                                                                             
    Chilliwack book drop: Outside south entrance of A Building.                                                            
    Abbotsford book drop: Outside north entrance of G Building                    
     [Note: there will be a delay in clearing items from your record as library staff are working remotely.] 
  • We are not taking payments for fines at this time. Banner blocks will be temporarily removed to enable registration.
Interlibrary Loans
  • Interlibrary loans of print materials are not available. ILL for journal articles are being processed but may be affected by library closures elsewhere.
Course Reserves
  • If you require the course textbook, please contact the UFV bookstore
  • Online reading lists for articles and book chapters continue to be available.
Reference Services
  • If you are off campus, you can ask questions and get help using the services listed below.

:  Email your library research questions to a UFV librarian. We will get back to you within 24 hours.

Faculty Support
  • UFV Library employees are working to support faculty and students through this time period. 
  • Faculty may contact their  liaison librarian for assistance locating resources and creating virtual reading lists for online courses. We are now offering an expanded Course Resources Service, which will include scanning and digitizing services within copyright allowances.
  • Consult our Open Educational Resources LibGuide for help locating OER resources.
  • The UFV Bookstore supports faculty and students with course textbooks. Please see their website for details on accessing print and electronic textbooks.
